TCS Handset Locator 

TCS Handset Locator allows wireless subscribers who have lost their device to locate it using a self-service Web interface located on the carrier Web site. This enables wireless network carriers to offer an additional value-added service to their subscriber base resulting in reduced churn and increased revenue.

Subscribers can locate their handset from any computer with an Internet connection without having to place a costly call to customer care. However, should a subscriber call customer care to cancel service due to a lost handset, the customer care rep can locate the handset via the Web and tell the customer its location, thereby averting a potential lost subscriber.

If the battery on a lost device is running low, the device sends its location to the server and the subscriber can see its battery level, as well as its last known location. TCS Handset Locator supports both user-plane and control-plane LBS architectures.

The service can be offered as a subscription for a low monthly fee and billed to the subscriber’s monthly wireless bill. This offers an affordable, convenient way for consumers to sign up for the service. Per-use billing also is available for consumers who do not want to subscribe to the service, but want the peace of mind of knowing that they can always locate their handset if it’s lost or stolen.

TCS Handset Locator complements existing handset insurance programs and is another service from which a carrier can derive a recurring revenue stream.
